Complete Map & Rules Explained ยท Updated for CAP 722
Flying a drone in London is highly restricted due to Heathrow Airport's massive Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ), City Airport, London Heliport airspace controls, and Royal Parks bylaws. However, depending on your drone's weight, certain safe opportunities exist.
Check the live London drone mapExtending 5km from airfield borders. Absolute No Fly without ATC clearance.
Military aerodrome FRZ covering much of north-west London.
Flying drones in Hyde Park, Regent's Park, Greenwich Park, or Richmond Park is illegal without a specific commercial filming permit.
Drones under 250g do not face residential setbacks, but they are STILL strictly banned inside London Airport FRZs (including Heathrow, London City, RAF Northolt) and prohibited inside the Royal Parks and by most local councils without an explicit licence.
Areas of Open G airspace outside the FRZs, such as parts of south-east London away from City Airport, may be legal for sub-250g drones up to 400ft. Always check the live map and local council bylaws before flying.
